Subject

The 91st Ohio Infantry and the 9th Va were part of the Second Brigade, Army of West Virginia. On July 18, 1864 they advanced on a much larger retreating Confederate army, engaging a cavalry unit at Bunker Hill. The Union forces drove them off, and remained at Bunker Hill, before being attacked by Confederate forces at Stevenson's Station, north of Winchester, on July 20. This graffiti was written between two battles; this unit would suffer significant casualties the next day.
