Description
Atlanta, July 25.— Last night Peter
Stamps, colored, was lynched at Douglasville by a mob of 500 men for an alleged
rape committed upon Ida Abercombie,
daughter of a well-to-do white farmer.
The girl was 13 years old, and a few days
ago her parents discovered that she was
about to become a mother. She confessed
that Stamps, who worked on the place,
was the father of her child, and she said
that be had a year ago outraged her, and
at various times since had compelled her
to submit to his desires. Stamps was arrested and placed in jail.
