Description
An Old Mans Crime.
Tallapoosa has been deeply stirred by
the attempt of Walter Warren, an old
peddler, to criminally assault the young
12-year old daughter of Mr Jack Tumi n.
of that place. About 12 o’clock Friday
the girl and her younger sisters were
clone in the house when Warren appeared. He inquired for her mother and
father, and upon learning that they were
both away from home he twice attempted to assault her. Some hours later he
was apprehended in a house in the center of town. He had made no effort to
escape and though he admitted to being
at the house at the time named, he denied the young girl’s accusations. How
ever he was unqualifiedly identified by
the girl as her assailant. (After the old
man’s attempt at assault became known
in the community a mob quickly gathered and the officers were compelled, in
order to save their prisoner from violence, to carry him immediately to Buchanan. the county neat, nine miles from this place. Warren, the assailant, is an
old gray-headed man of severity
