Description
HORSE CAUSED THIS FIGHT.
A fight which grew out of George L. Tweed's refusal to purchase a horse from Thomas Pulley, had a lengthy rehearsal before the court after the ordinary drunks were disposed of. The affair occurred Saturday night, and according to the testimony of Tulley. He was so brutally assaulted by Tweed
that he had to be taken to the Delaware Hospital for treatment. Tulley swore that the assault upon him was without provocation, but according to the testimony of John L. Tweed, Warren Meselmer, Francis P. Trainer and the prisoner, the prosecuting witness provoked the quarrel. The court thought that Tweed had used more than necessary force in defending himself and therefore was guilty of assault and battery. In imposing a fine of $10 and costs, Judge Ball said the fine would have been heavier had not the circumstances pointed to provocation on the part of Tulley.
