BEATEN WOMAN IS NEAR DEATH
Mrs. Peldyzk Perhaps Fatally Stomped in Quarrel With Husband
LAY UNCONSCIOUS IN COUNTY ROAD
Jake Peldyzk, of Boxwood, near Richardson Park, was arrested this morning by Stale Detective Frank W. McCoy and Constable George Whittington. near Sixth and Madison streets, and locked up at the police station charged with an assault on his wife with intent to commit murder. He is held without bail. Mrs. Peldyzk is In Delaware Hospital In a critical condition.
According to the information obtained by the officers, Peldyzk beat his wife severely shortly before 6 o’clock this morning, chased her out of their home while only partially clothed, and when she fell in the yard, Peldyzk is said to have run out from the house and jumped on the body of his prostrate wife with both feet. The assault is said to have been repeated, Peldyzk declaring he would kill the woman. He finally left her lying in the yard and went into the house, presumably to secure a gun that he kept there. During his absence Mrs. Peldyzk struggled to her feet and ran about a quarter of a mile from her home and then fainted. Her body lay by the roadside from 6 to 9 am, uncared for, as the neighbors were afraid to interfere. Finally, Constable George Whittington was summoned and finding the woman in a serious condition, secured the services of a nearby physician, who ordered the woman sent to the hospital. Aided by some women in the neighborhood, Whittington took the injured woman to the Delaware Hospital, then securing State Detective McCoy started in pursuit of Peldyzk, who was supposed to be at Lynch’s Morocco factory, Sixth and Monroe streets.
Peldyzk evidently was expecting the officers and when they appeared at the factory, he secreted himself in a nearby house. He was soon over powered however and dragged from his hiding place. When questioned at the police station, Peldyzk seemed indifferent as to the condition of his wife and refused to make any statement.
The injuries of Mrs. Peldyzk and the imprisonment of her husband leaves five small children alone and unprovided for, and, according to the officers, very much in need of assistance.
