Description
THREE MONTHS IN JAIL
James C. Reed, colored, was charged with committing an assault and battery upon Vicia Johnson, also colored. The prosecuting witness stated that in January last Reed struck her in the face while in the Pennsylvania House. He later followed her to Fourth and French streets, continually assaulting her, and finally knocking one of her teeth out with a blackjack.
Several witnesses gave similar testimony. Judge Ball imposed a fine of $25 and costs and sentenced Reed to three months in New Castle jail with hard labor on the stone pile.
