Iowan Confesses Guilt of Crime for Which Another Was Punished. Waterloo, la., Oct 29.óPostmaster Munger has received a written confession signed "C. F. Rollins,î acknowledging guilt of a crime of arson committed near Marshalltown three years ago, for which J, R. Faust of that place was sentenced to three years imprisonment On the night of Sept. 4, 1897, two large barns on a farm that Faust had purchased a short time previously were destroyed by fire. Faust had had the barns and contents heavily insured just after purchasing them, and In his trial It was asserted that the motive of the
crime was to obtain the insurance money. The story told in the Rollins confession Is that the man was hired by an
attorney for a railroad to burn the barns and that he received $850 for the job. He says his conscience has been hurting him ever since the crime, and he has been unable to sleep. He declares he makes the confession to set an Innocent man right before the world. A telegram from Marshall town says Rollins lived there at the time the barns were burned and that his confession agrees with the facts In the case.
