Arson in the Beatrice Daily Express, 1900&1920

In-State Crimes

In-state stories tended to be local to Beatrice or the surrounding areas, with suspects and victims often named outright in the paper. Much of the crimes reported in-state are court records, though there are the occasional sensationalized articles, namely "SALOONIST ASSAULTS ATTORNEY THAT PROSECUTED HIM" in which a man assaulted the prosecuting attorney immediately after he was sentenced for arson charges.

In-state reported stories tended to follow general trends of arson in this time period, with multiple articles regarding whether insurance money played a part in a fiery crime.
