In the course of his eloquent remarks at Ashland last Wednesday, after the nomination of Captain
George D. Wise, Mr. E. C. Moncure, of Caroline, said that “he had a serious charge to make against Captain Wise; that as Commonwealth's attorney of Caroline he should have him indicted, should oppose a change of venue, and have him tried. The charge was that Captain Wise was guilty of theft
in having stolen the hearts of the people of the Third congressional district and of his own county of Caroline in particular. After conviction, which was sure to follow, he intended to have him sent to Washington for two years as a punishment for the great offence."
