Description
Captain Charles Larkin of the schooner I Don't-Know had the misfortune to have $45 stolen- from him early yesterday morning. The suspicion of Captain Larkin falls on a little man whom he employed Thursday as a deck hand as the fellow who may now be spending his hard earned money. Captain Larkin" says he had the money in an inside pocket of his coat, which hung on a peg in the cabin. He wanted something from the cabin yesterday morning and sent the man for it. The employee, according to Captain Larkin, went but didn’t return. When the captain missed him he went to the cabin. The money was in his mind; he felt in his coat pocket, when lo and behold, he learned that it was in his mind alone certainly not in his pocket. The money was put up in bills of $5 each. The man whom Captain Larkin remembered mostly yesterday was put up 5 feet and 4 inches of flesh and bones he has black curly hair at one end and two small, much-worn shoes at the other.
The theft has been reported to the police of the First District, and Detective Wren is at work on the case.
