Description
Richard J. McArdell pleaded guilty
in Circuit court at Paw Paw this
forenoon to the charge of committing
assault and battery upon his son
Richard, and paid a fine of $25 and
costs, amounting to about $10,
imposed by Judge Des Voignes.
The case grew out of a whipping
administered recently, and the war
rant was sworn out after the probate
judge, sheriff and prosecuting attorney
had examined the body of the boy
who is sixteen years of age.
Probate Judge Killefer also set in
motion proceedings to take the boy
from the custody of his father, and
County Agent Hurlbut was here today
to investigate, preparatory to re
porting on such a step.
Mr. McArdell was accompanied to
Paw Paw by his attorney F. C. Coggeshall,
but made no attempt to contest
the matter, and is understood to
have expressed regret that he made
the punishment so severe. South
Haven Tribune.
The above news story is alright
with, the exception of the following
facts: The case was not heard in
Justice Court: Judge Des Voignes is
holding court in Detroit: The case
was heard in Justice Court, and it
was heard by Judge Rowland.
