Description
Edward Williams was hanged in the New Jersey State Prison at Trenton today at noon for the murder of Minnie Eisley. On Thanksgiving Day last Williams's employer took dinner at the house of a relative living at a distance. Returning late at night, he found Miss Eisley's body in his barn. She had been employed by him as a servant. Williams was missing was at once suspected. He was caught a couple of days later and was tried for murder. He denied the crime, but was convicted upon circumstancial evidence. He afterward confessed. As supposed, he went to a saloon and became drunk. He returned to his employer's and set about his chores as best he could. Miss Eisley spoke to him reprovingly, and in anger he knocked her down. He went about his work, and when through found she was still unconscious. Fearing the consequences if she revived to tell her story he beat out her brains with a heavy wooden mallet and then fled.
