Description
Jacksonville Union: “A colored man by the
name of Dan Watson was shot and instantly
killed ty another colored man named Lorenzo
Sims, on Lake Santa Fe, in Bradford County,
last Sunday. The particulars, as far as we
have been able to learn, are about as follows:
A short while ago. Watson committed a rape
upon his wife's niece, and last Saturday he at
tended a festival near Waldo. White at the
festival, he was remonstrated with by some of
the women in attendance, and became furiously mad, threatening to kill a number
of them. He drew a razor and cut the girl’s
mothers breast open, and also severely cut
another woman in the face. On Sunday after
noon some of the men living in the vicinity got
after him, and he threatened to kill all of them,
and, in order to carry out his threat he started
toward a white man's house in the vicinity,
where he had left his gun. He had reached
the house, and. while entering the door, his
brother in-law (Sims) and another man fired at
him. And he was killed instantly. A buckshot
passed through a crack In the house and lodged
in the cheek of a white man. An inquest was
held and a verdict of justifiable homicide was
rendered."
