ARRESTED ON SERIOUS CHARGE
Dr. Joseph P. Pyle Charged With Assault With Intent to Commit Murder.
MISS YEATMAN THE VICTIM
ALLEGED FAMILY QUARREL RESULTS SERIOUSLY AND PENNSYLVANIA EXTRADITION PAPERS HAVE BEEN HONORED BY GOVERNOR TUNNELL --- HEARING BEFORE CHIEF JUSTICE LORE ON FEBUARY 17.
Dr. Joseph P. Pyle, of this city, has been arrested and held to await the result of the habeas corpus proceedings which have been instituted and which will be heard by Chief Justice Lore on February 17.
The charges against Dr. Pyle are assault, aggravated assault and assault with intent to commit murder upon Miss Florence Yeatman, at the latter’s home, in Kennett township, Chester County, Pa.
The assaults are alleged to have been committed three weeks ago and were the result of a family misunderstanding. Miss Yeatman being the sister of Mrs. Pyle.
About a month ago Mrs. Pyle went to visit her father, in Kennett township. She became ill and on the night on which the assaults are said to have been committed, Dr. Pyle, hearing of his wife’s illness, went to see her.
The physician saw his wife and late in the evening he and Miss Yeatman so it is alleged, became involved in a dispute. The charges in the warrants which were issued for Dr. Pyle’s arrest allege that he struck and injured Miss Yeatman.
The warrants could not be served by Sheriff Butler, of Chester County, as Dr. Pyle had come to Delaware.
Extradition papers were secured for Dr. Pyle by Governor Stone and they were honored on Tuesday evening by Governor Ebe W. Tunnell.
The habeas corpus proceedings will be heard by the chief justice on February 17.
The case will be tried in West Chester in about two weeks.
