Description
SLASHED AFTER HIS VISIT TO GIRL
For assault and battery on Fred Shields, Weston Bryant was fined $100 and costs with the alternative of serving six months' imprisonment, by Deputy Judge Finger, in Municipal Court this morning. Both are Negroes.
Each of the men accused the other of being the aggressor in a fracas yesterday. Fred said that while visiting his girl's house, he accidentally brushed against Bryant and when he begged his pardon, Bryant drew a knife and cut him behind the ear, inflicting a cut that required four stitched to close. He then forced him down and was about to draw the blade across his throat when another Negro arrived and prevented him, Shields declared.
Weston said that Fred first swung on him and that he then, to protect himself, cut the much bigger Negro.
