BEACH FEUD STIRS FOLKS AT REHOBOTH
Health Commissioner Wells Swears Out Warrant for Mrs. Margaret Hans
ASSAULTED TWO GIRLS HE SAYS
While many of the seashore resorts are agog over the wearing of one-piece bathing suits. Rehoboth, Delaware's only ocean resort has provided another thriller for summer boarders,
but in this case in happens to be a beach feud between the summer boarders.
An aftermath of the squabble Is expected to be staged at Lewes next Saturday when a warrant sworn out by Chester H. Wells. Slate Health Commissioner, will be served on Mrs. Margaret Hans, a Baltimore. Mr., society woman, in case she visits Rehoboth, that day.
The warrant charges Mrs. Hans with assault and battery on two small girls and the outcome of the case is being watched with interest by residents of Rehoboth and Lewes. According to Mr. Wells, Mrs. Hans left Rehoboth abruptly last Monday before the warrant he had issued could
be served on her.
Officials of Rehoboth are alleged to have taken sides with Mrs. Hans. Mr. Wells said today they not only refused to cause her arrest on a charge of disorderly conduct and also called Magistrate N. B. Register. of Lewes, on the telephone, and told him he had no right to issue a warrant for Mrs. Hans on any charge where the alleged offense was committed in Rehoboth.
The warrant was issued at Lewes last Monday morning following a ride to that town from Rehoboth by Mr. Wells and a Mrs. Widmer. of Philadelphia, whose child, aged 9 years, is
alleged to have been shaken by Mrs. Hans. Mr. Wells also alleges that Mrs. Hans slapped Elizabeth Hart aged 10 years, in the face. The Hart child is visiting Mr. Wells' family at the resort.
In speaking of the trouble today Mr. Wells said that last Sunday morning

a young son of Mrs. Hans, who had been annoying the Hart child and Mrs. Widiner's daughter was warned if he did not stop throwing sand on them they would duck him in the surf. This the girls proceeded to do when Mrs. Hans is alleged to have rushed to the beach and assaulted the children.
Mr. Wells said he witnessed the affair from the porch of his cottage and that he remonstrated with the woman. Later Mr. Hans called at the Wells' cottage, Mr. Wells says, and said he thought his wife would apologize, but he hardly thought she would. That evening Mrs. Hans, Mr. Wells says, wrote a note to Mrs. Wells, stating she was sorry for creating the scene, but that what she gave the children they deserved.
Mr. Wells said today that persons on the front porch of the hotel suggested that because the arrest as the assault was uncalled for. When he asked for a warrant for the arrest of Mrs. Hans, however, it was refused he said by the Mayor of Rehoboth and one of the town commissioners.
Mr. Wells said he did not desire to have the woman fined but thought she should be reprimanded as she bad set a bad example in the eyes of the children at the beach.
As the Baltimore woman is summering at the resort it is expected that the warrant will be served when she visits there next Saturday.
