Jan. 19.— One man was sentenced to from 18 to 30 years in state's prison and two others were given the full term in the Rahway reformatory by Judge Peter F. Daly this morning when they were arraigned before him on charges of criminally attacking girls. John Bresko, of Metuchen. who was convicted this week of assaulting a nine-year-old girl, was given the long sentence in state's prison. His attorney, County Solicitor Frederick F. Richardson, made a plea for leniency, declaring he bore a good reputation in Metuchen, was industrious and that this is the first time he was implicated in trouble of this sort. Bresko’s home-life in late years has not Deen or tno Dest, air. Richardson declared, his wife having died and a son, now in the State Home for Boys at Jamesburg, having caused him considerable trouble, The plea for leniency failed to im- press the judge who sentenced the Metuchen man to spend from 18 to 30 years in state’s prison. James Curley, twenty-four years old, and Stanley Neison. nineteen of South River, each were sentenced to serve full terms in the reformatory after Judge Daly had referred to the crime of which the\ were found guilty as the most shocking he ever had before him "It staggers one's belief to think that these men are human beings when they can perpetrate such a crime,” Judge Daly said in commenting upon the attack made by the two men on a seventeen year old girl. Judge Daly declared <i was his belief that neither man was in his normal mind when the crimes were committed, the condition of their minds probably having been brought about by “vile liquor ’’ The judge says one would almost be justified in believing th« men had secured this liquor at the homo of the girl. George Burton represented Neison and John A. Coan was Cur- ley's attorney. Both told of th« army service records of the the defendants and of the good family from which the defendants come Albert Murphy, sixteen, and Walter Craig, seventeen, the latter colored and both of Monroe township who pleaded guilty in the count] court last week to a serious charge were sentenced to the reformatory al Rahway for a full term by Judge Daly.
