Race and Assault
Of the assaults reported in the Richmond Planet, most perpetrators are black. A possible factor of this disproportionate reporting is that of the black men that commit assault, many are lynched- a crime regularly reported on by the Planet. Due to the interest in reporting lynchings, by default, more crimes committed by black men are reported on, including assault. There are also assaults committed by white men, of which some are also sexual assaults.
Many assaults committed by white men are also racially motivated against black men.
