Description
Last Friday Sheriff Beattie and his
Undersheriff Andrew Lang were summoned
to Covert to look for an Indian
by the name of Lawrence Wesaw living
near that village. Wesaw is charged
with assaulting Miss Hannah Sederholm,
aged 19 whom he met Friday forenoon
on the road a half mile west of Covert.
The young lady was returning home
from the village.
The Indian met the girl in a secluded
spot in the road where the banks shut
out the view, He attacked her but she
fought him oft and her cries for help
were heard before he accomplished his
purpose. The frightened Indian dashed
away at the approach of those summoned
by the girl's screams.
The girl did not know her assailant,
and could give only a vague description
of him, so that the officers were obliged
to lose some little time in getting on the
trail They finally satisfied themselves!
as to who it was, and started after their j
man. They located him late that after
noon and brought him to the county
bastille there to wait until Monday
morning when he will be granted a hearing.
Wesaw has admitted his guilt to the
county officers so it is expected that he
will waive examination and be bound
ver to the circuit court to dispose of his
case at the October term.
