Description
Determined to get revenge upon his ex-wife, because she had divorced him, George Tagas lured her to his home, 8105 Fifth ave. N.E., Monday night, and beat her mercilessly, then attacked his mother-in-law and another woman who attempted to interfere, and threw them out of the house, according to the story told Tuesday by Mrs. Amzel Tagas, the former wife. Tagas is lodged in the county jail, and a charge of third degree assault awaits his plea in Justice O. W. Brinker court as a result of his alleged ruthlessness. At the time of the divorce, January 14, Mrs. Tagas was awarded the custody of their 6-month-old daughter, Frances, and Tagas was intrusted with the keeping of Luis, their 18-month-old son. The divorce was obtained on the ground of cruelty. Warm rivalry sprang up between the two parents over the custody of the children, and Mrs. Tagas said she was summoned to her former husband's home Monday night by a phone call from Tagas, who told her the little boy had cut himself and was in grave danger. She started at once, she said, taking Mrs. Rose Shear, her mother, and a young woman friend, Blanche De Belle, of 2327 N. 63d st. Arriving at the husband's residence, Mrs. Tagas says, she knocked on the door, which was suddenly flung open by Tagas. "I hurried in," she said, "and he struck me a blow with his heavy fist that knocked me down. Then he started to beat me up. Mother and my girl friend tried to help me and he knocked them down and then threw us all out."
