Description
GUARD AIDED CONVICTS IN COUNTERFEITING
Secret Service men have arrested Alvin Struse, formerly a watchman in the Eastern Penitentiary at Philadelphia. He is charged with having aided convicts in the making of counterfeit silver coins in the penitentiary. He has been held for further hearing by United States Commissioner Bell, under bonds of $2,000.
It is alleged eleven prisoners in the penitentiary are implicated. The counterfeiting was exposed some months ago and Secret Service men have been working on the case steadily since that time to learn all the ramifications of the plot.
