UNITED STATES MARINE FACES SERIOUS CHARGES
Arrested Last Evening Charged With Counterfeiting.
Suspected of counterfeiting United States money, John C. Eckert, twenty-five years old, a United States marine was taken into custody by the police last night. He denies all knowledge of the nature of money-making except working for it as a $16-a-month marine.
The police have in their possession a quantity of zinc, a suspicious looking ladle, and a sieve. They also have prospects of recovering other counterfeiting paraphernalia today or tomorrow. They say these articles belong to the marine. He denies this.
Policeman McTaggart received information from a woman last evening that she knew where a counterfeiter was, as well as the hiding place of his “layout.” After getting the zinc, ladle, sieve the police arrested Eckert.
