Murder in the Alexandria Gazette, 1900 & 1920

In State Crimes

In 1900 there were 6 crimes reported in state.

In 1920 there were 5 crimes reported in state.

These stories vary in length of detail depending on the information available to the reporters. My stories range from 23 words to 258, with the shortest report being about Leonard Crockett’s mysterious death and the longest report being the sentencing of Phillip Shirley Cockrell. Cockrell’s report fits more inline with the sensational style of reporting whereas Crockett’s report is more so the informational style of reporting.
