- Description
- Norfolk, V.A Feb. 15- another mysterious murder of a woman has occurred at the notorious town of Phoebud, near Fortress Monroe, the scene of so many bloody riots during and after the Spanish war. The latest victim is Mrs. William J. Garland, wife of a rich saloon keeper. She was found dead in bed beside her husband. A small wound, hardly visible to the naked eye below the left breast told where a delicate darning needle had entered and pierced the heart, causing instant death. The husband reported the crime and was placed under arrest charged with the murder. He asserts his innocence, Garland, it is stated, had some enemies. It is not known whether he recently quarrelled with his wife. They were known to have been living peaceably. The murderer of Mrs. Garland was, it appears, a scientific man, sinxe it develops that one job of the needle hit the vital spot and caused death.
