Description
Aaron Halle, who shot and killed Mamie Brannigan, the beautiful young salesgirl in Reinhardts dry goods store, at Third avenue and Eighty sixth street, last Thursday morning was held on the charge of murder by the Coroner's jury this morning. An hour later the Grand Jury found an indictment against him for murder in the first degree. Halle will be arraigned before judge Cowing in Part I., General Sessions, tomorrow morning at 10.30 o'clock, when he will plead to the charge, A heartbroken mother, with reddened eyes and tear stained cheeks, sat in the Library of the Coroner's office in the Criminal Court Building this morning and listened to the tragic details of the death of his daughter. There was hatred in the look the mother gave the murderer as he entered the room, but Halie, cool and impassive, returned the glance with utmost indifference and with no show of pity for the woman his mad act has thrown into an awful grief. With Mrs. Branniga were Katie, an eighteen year old daughter, and her son Daniel. half sister and half brother respectively of the murdered girl. All were in tears. It was after 11 o'clock when the inquest began before Coroner Hart and jury.
