Murder in the Montgomery Advertiser, 1900 & 1920

Gender and Murder

In Alabama Murder in relation to gender shows that the majority of individuals who commit the crime are Men (very few are women) and the victim of murder is also mostly men ( women are in a closer proportion to men in this category). In our time period we see that when men murder other men it is usually an action that just happens at random, whether it be caused by a sudden fight, or just a bad day. But when men murder women it is usually because they are related in some way (wife, daughter). In all cases men who murder do it in a confrontational way where they have a victim who is at least somewhat aware of what's going on. On the other hand when women murder individuals at least in the forty cases presented they usually kill men and never in active confrontation. Women usually use poison or just kill the man in their sleep.
