Race
The Morning Appeal depicted 4 Native American Victims, 1 French Victim, and 13 did not specifically state the race of the victim but assumed to be White.
In the Carson City Daily Appeal depicted 1 Arabian Victim and 11 did not specify the race of the victim but assumed White.
Seeing in both The Morning Appeal and the Carson City Daily Appeal were based in Nevada which has a high concentration of Native Americans, it only stands to reason that there would be stories involving them. However, due to changing of the scope of the two more reports involving Native Americans are seen in The Morning Appeal.
Several stories from The Morning Appeal refer to some Native Americans as a “squaw”, a derogatory term referring to a female Native American. Besides the racist term in mentioning the victim, it also shows no affection for her, but I believe that it is accredited to the style of writing the paper. But seeing the time period when this story was released there is reason to speculate.
On the other hand, the Carson City Daily Appeal would not have any stories with Native American involvement or directly mention race. The one time that race is mentioned is in an international story from the Carson City Daily Appeal. The story depicted an international story from Chihuahua City, Mexico depicting the murder of a wealth Arabian merchant. Seeing the odd nature for the story one would think it would be sensationalized but, in fact it is one of the smallest stories with 35 words.
