Murder Map
The majority of murder crimes reported by The Wheeling Daily Intelligencer (at least in this dataset) occurred in the United States. Two crimes were reported outside of the US one in the Ottoman Empire (referred to as Turkey) and one in China. The rest of the stories were US based, but the majority of those crimes were out of state crimes.
The out of state crimes tended to be around the northern Midwest near Ohio and West Virginia, suggesting the newspaper was focused more on crime in bordering states. Fewer crimes were committed in the city of Wheeling itself which would explain the focus on outside of West Virginia. In total there five stories that were in state, but one of the five stories was an update to a previously reported story involving "divine healing."
