Description
SUSPECT ARRESTED. Colored Man Who Has Already Served Term in Penitentiary. John Goings, alias Boughn, colored, twenty-seven years old, is locked up at the sixth precinct station on charges of theft. He return from the penitentiary at Trenton, N. J., about four months ago, after having served a sentence there for arson. Sergeant Byrnes and Bicycle Policemen Mullen and Bean arrested him yesterday on suspicion in that he had robbed the house of Mrs. Ella Bentley, No. 628 North Capitol Street, Saturday night. After locking up the prisoner they searched his house in Jackson’s alley. An alarm clock and some bedding that had been taken from Mrs. Bentley's house were found there. The officers failed to find an army revolver alleged to have been taken at the same time. In addition to the property mentioned, the police found in the house two books that had evidently been taken from the library at the Catholic University and eight volumes of a work printed at the government printing office, entitled “Messages and Papers of Presidents." A bundle of theatrical lithographs was also found. Detectives Peck and Miller are working on the case and the prisoner will be taken to the Police Court tomorrow.
