A Vicious Criminal is Caught and Sentenced. John Johnson, colored, pleaded guilty this morning to the charge of robbery and was sentenced to five years of hard labor at Walla Walla penitentiary. Quick work was made in the apprehension and conviction of the culprit, but three days having gone since his brutal assault upon T. Hayakana, a Japanese boy, on Jackson street. Johnson felled the little Jap with a large rock, frightfully bruising his head, and almost killing him. In fact the sentence was deferred for a day awaiting the result of the injury. After the villain had knocked the boy senseless he secured a gold watch and diamond pin from his person. Jailer Corbett apprehended the negro and safely brought him to his reckoning.
