Where was Rape Being Reported On?
The location of rape reports in the Appeal is almost evenly split between out-of-state and in-state; with sixteen stories in-state and fourteen stories out-of-state. In 1900, more stories were coming from in-state, while 1880's stories were mostly from out-of-state. Out-of-state stories had a tendency to involve lynchings and perhaps the more outrageous rapes but were also short and simple, while in-state stories were longer as they pertained to local issues which the audience of the Appeal might have more stake in.
