In-State Theft
Of the thefts or larcenies that were covered in the Evening Star, most of them took place in Washington D.C. where the newspaper company was located and founded. In the 1900s, 16 cases were in-state out of 20 that were reviewed, and only a slight decrease in 1920s with 13 cases that happened in-state.
However, there was a significantly small number of thefts happening in 1900s considering that when the task was to find at least 20 cases of thefts starting on January 1, the search expanded to the end of February covering almost 2 months. However, it was not the same for the latter year; there were easily 20 cases of theft within the first month of June 1920, inferring that, at least, an increase of theft crimes being reported to law enforcement in 1920s compared to the 1900s.
