Nature of theft as reported in the DD/RD
Theft is a very weird crime to generalize as theft is as diverse as the human race itself and this sentiment is reflected in the fact that the only thing that all these stories share is that something was stolen at some point. Theft is a matter of who as in who did the stealing and what as in what was stolen and to this end these blanks can be filled in by almost anything. The only real noticable trend is that stealing via letters became more common in the 1920's. Other than that every case is almost entirely different with regards to who perpetrated the thefts and what was stolen. In some cases it was money of some notable amount and in others it was some item of some sort of value. The main trend of theft during these times I suppose is that theft tended to be on the petty side most of the time. This is most likely due to the fact that petty theft is a far more common occurence than higher value thefts due to the broadness of theft as a crime.
