CORSICAN ARRESTED; FAKE MONEY FOUND IN HIS POSSESSION
American Vice Consul at Haiti Implicated and Is Dismissed
Secret Service agents in New York have arrested Joseph M. Giordani, a Corsican. fifty-four years old, and New York representative of the Haitian and Santo Domingo revolutionists on a charge of counterfeiting. More than $800,000 of spurious Haitian money which was to have been paid the revolutionary troops 2,000 Remington rifles and 230,000 rounds of ammunition as well as all of Giordani’s correspondence with the insurgent leaders, were confiscated by Chief Wilkie’s men.
In this same connection Secretary Root today cabled the United States minister at Haiti to dismiss immediately Vice Consul Charles Miot.
Giordano’s papers showed beyond contradiction that Miot was one of his co-conspirators. This information is imparted to Secretary Root last evening and he ordered Miots dismissal as soon as he reached his office this morning.
Miot’s alleged offense Is not punishable here but the Haitian officials may deal with him for entering in a scheme to disrupt the government.
