- Description
- ANOTHER ROBBERY. Representative Dovener Reports the Theft of a Variable Charm. The report of another robbery alleged to have been committed in Willard's Hotel was made to the police last night. A watch charm, the property of Representative B. B. Dovener of West Virginia, was reported to have been taken from his room. The charm was made a present to Mr. Dovener by friends in San Francisco three years ago. Yesterday morning he went to breakfast at 10 o'clock, leaving his watch chain and charm on the dresser. After breakfast he put his timepiece in his pocket and went to the Capitol. It was not until 4 o'clock in the afternoon that he discovered his loss. Then he reported the case to the police, and detectives made an investigation. Mrs. Dovener fastened the charm to the fob chain in a way that it could not save been lost, she says, and for this reason it is believed it was stolen. A diamond set in the charm made the article the more valuable intrinsically. The detectives are still investigating the loss of Representative Robertson's jewelry, but no arrests have been made. It is their belief that the hotel sneak who committed the robbery left the city shortly after he completed his work.
