Montreal, September 20. This afternoon J. O. Padden, paying teller of the Bank of
Montreal, left his desk for about three minutes and during his absence a man, similarly dressed, coolly walked around the counter, picked up a package containing $7,000,
and quietly passed out of the building. The assistant paying teller saw him in Padden's
box and thought it was Paddon. The theft was immediately discovered, but up to this
hour the thief is at large.
