HSTY2671 Law & Order in Modern America

This is a lecture and tutorial course, which begins with a module on approaches to the history of crime, focused on murder, then explores the criminal justice system and policing, and extra-legal justice, on specific categories of crime — morals offenses, sex offenses, white collar crimes — and on two kinds of criminals — gangsters and juvenile offenders.

The assessment is focused on a research essay, in which students analyze a crime or crime generally in a particular place and time, or a specific sensational case, or representations of crime
