Salesman
In 1870, Consider Flower gave up farming, and moved east to Penfield, in New York State.
His move came as part of a dispersal of his family. Two years after his departure, in 1872, his mother died, followed in 1874, by the death of his father. By 1878, his sister Louisa and her family had left Michigan to go further west, to Kansas. Only William and his family remained in Lyons.
In Penfield, Flower worked as a fruit tree salesman. In the latter half of the nineteenth century, nearby Rochester was a leading American nursery center.
