Retirement in Florida

Soon after illness forced him to retire as Postmaster, Flower bought land in a community for Union veterans at Lynn Haven in Florida. He lived there until his death in 1927. In the following months, his widow Lucy struggled to collect a pension, forced to obtain records of Consider's divorce from his first wife to prove her claim. She did so with the help of a Marine colonel she and Consider had met in Alaska. Lucy Flower continued to live in Lynn Haven until her death in 1930.
